Northern Style Kung Fu

Women's Kung Fu Class

Kung Fu of Northern China traditionally relies on active footwork and strong, flexible legs. Northern systems teach soft movements and "soft" fist, slowly progressing to harder, more external techniques, ending with a combination of both hard and soft techniques. An external style of Chinese Wu Shu, it is often referred to as Northern Style Boxing or Chang Chuan.

The literal translation of Chang Chuan is Long Fist. It is an external style of Chinese Wu Shu (War Art). Its origins lay outside of China's northern borders and it is often referred to as Northern Style Boxing. There are thousands of different systems of external Kung Fu that fall under the category of Chang Chuan. A few of the more popular systems are Shaolin, Tan Tui, Fan Zi Chuan, and Tang Lang.
